My Review: “One needs only a single match to start a fire”
Echo is human, a human girl who lives with the Avicen. Ancient people who have feathers where hair should be. When Echo find a clue to the Firebird, a way to end the war that has gone on for ages, she embarks on the mission to find the firebird. A mission that could cost her her life, and the lives of her friends.
Personally it took me three tries to start the book, I just could not get that into it, and stopped reading after three or four chapters. I couldn't imagine the way the Avicen looked and it frustrated me. Just as I was about to give up on the book a third time, I told myself only two more chapters and I could give up again, and then I got hooked. I could not put the book down and had to keep reading till I finished. Once you get past the beginning, the book is so incredibly action packed, and the characters are all so unique and interesting that you can't put the book down.
I slowly fell in love with all the characters, Echo being the underdog you can't help but cheer for her. Echo is really an amazing character, you get to see her grow and become such a strong character. The author did an absolutely amazing job with her character development. Not just her's too, the other characters Caius, Dorian, Jasper, Ivy. They all are incredibly different, yet they make the perfect team. You can't help to cheer for all the characters.
The world-building in this story was absolutely amazing. Because of Echo's mission, you get to travel with her to many places across the world. Each place is described in such a way where you feel like you're looking at a photograph because you can picture it so clearly. The author made you feel like you travelled across the whole world in just one book.
I don't want to say too much about the plot because I don't want to ruin the book for you guys, so just trust me when I say that the action starts only a few chapters in, and the story is so captivating that you won't be able to put it down.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to all fantasy lovers. Especially fans of The Mortal Instruments and Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. I personally wish that I could have read this book sooner, its absolutely perfect and I will definitely be waiting to read the second book in the series.
